Justin Bieber is speaking out after receiving backlash for incorporating two Martin Luther King Jr. speeches onto his album Justice.

The project opens with MLK’s “Letter from Birmingham Jail” (“Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere”) before leading into the album’s first track “2 Much.” Later on “MLK Interlude,” pulled from King’s 1967 sermon “But If Not King,” MLK speaks about causes so great that they are worth dying for, which serves as a lead-in for the Dominic Fike-assisted “Die for You” about Bieber’s love for a woman.

Bieber was criticized for his use of the civil rights icon on an album that doesn’t actually address social justice despite its title. Rolling Stone called the MLK samples a “jarring musical misstep,” while Variety said it “doesn’t make a lick of sense.”

During his first-ever Clubhouse chat with Bieber Nation, Bieber reflected on the controversy and defended his decision.

“Being Canadian,… they didn’t teach us about Black history. It was just not a part of our education system,” he said, according to Billboard. “I think for me, coming from Canada and being uneducated and making insensitive jokes when I was a kid and being insensitive and being honestly just a part of the problem because I just didn’t know better. For me to have this platform to just share this raw moment of Martin Luther King in a time where he knew he was going to die for what he was standing up for.”

Bieber said he was willing to endure “as much hate by putting that on the album” and that his objective was to “amplify” MLK’s “incredibly, touching speech.”

“I want to keep growing and learning about just all social injustices and what it looks like for me to be better, what it looks like for my friends to be better,” he said. “And I know I have a long way to go. I love that when people are listening to my album, these conversations are coming up and they’re like, ‘Well, how is he going from Martin Luther King into a love song?’”

He continued, “I’m not trying to make a connection between me and Martin Luther King. That’s why I never try to talk about social injustice or I didn’t want to be the one to talk about it because I just have so much more learning to do. But I have this man who was ready to die and what he believed to be true. If I’m not willing to face some sort of ridicule or judgment of people wondering my motives or whatever that is, for me, it was a no brainer.”

Bieber’s security Lauren Walters said that as a Black man, he found it “very admirable” that Bieber chose to bring awareness to “something that’s been going on in America for decades, centuries.” “For you to be the No. 1 pop star in the world to talk about these issues, it’s important,” said Walters.

Additionally, MLK’s daughter Bernice King thanked Bieber following the release of Justice, while acknowledging his support for The King Center.

It’s been two years since the world lost Nipsey Hussle.

On the second anniversary of his passing, Lauren London is reflecting on the events that changed her life forever. Taking to Instagram, the actress shared a photo of Nipsey with her 10 million followers along with some touching words.

“The Day Of Ermias’ transition changed the course of my life forever,” she began. “2 years, and it feels like yesterday and eternity all at the same time. Grief and Healing have been constant companions on this journey.”

An emotional London continued to pay tribute to her soulmate and father of her son. “In Honor of His life and demonstration… May all of Heaven exalt Your name for all You did on Earth and beyond. Brave and Beloved Soul, Ermias. You are missed deeply. You are loved immensely. You will forever be. I love you eternally,” said London, who Nipsey affectionately called “Boogie.”

The couple, who have a 4-year-old son named Kross, began dating in 2013 after meeting on social media. Last year, London revealed how she’s been coping with her grief since Nipsey was killed outside his Marathon Clothing store on March 31, 2019.

“I don’t always wake up on the enlightened side of the bed and the days that I don’t, I let myself ’cause I’m human,” she told Jada Pinkett-Smith on “Red Table Talk.” “I let myself be human and I’m gentle with myself, and I find things that matter and so I try to live with a purpose.”

The hip-hop community including Nas, 2 Chainz, Swizz Beatz, and DJ Khaled also paid tribute to the Crenshaw legend, who would have been 35.

21 Savage and Mulatto may be an item after all.

After sparking romance rumors late last year, 21 Savage is raising eyebrows once again after he posted and deleted a photo of the “Queen of Da Souf” on Instagram. He shared a photo of Mulatto without makeup while celebrating her natural beauty.

“No makeup,” Savage wrote on IG Stories. “Dam u fine it’s only 1 way I can come bout you twin.”

The post was quickly deleted but not before fans were able to screenshot it.

Back in December, it was rumored that the couple was dating after they seemingly vacationed together in Puerto Rico to celebrate Latto’s 22nd birthday. Fans noticed the similarities between the scenery in Mulatto’s videos and Savage’s friend, leading them to believe that they were staying at the same location and trying to hide their romance.

But Mulatto later denied that the two were dating. “I be laughing,” she told Wild 94.1 in January, while maintaining that their relationship is strictly professional.

Meanwhile, 21 Savage has been tapped to executive produce the music for Spiral: From the Book of Saw, the next installment in the rebooted Saw movie franchise. His new song “Spiral” can be heard in a trailer for the Chris Rock-produced film, which hits theaters May 14.

Pusha-T is nearing completion on his new album.

The rapper reveals that he has 12 songs done for the untitled project. During an Instagram Live interview (via HipHop-N-More), he gave an update on the follow-up to 2018’s Daytona.

“I feel like I have some extras right now, but I’m gonna keep 12,” said Pusha, who plans to return to the studio with Kanye West. “I gotta go sit in with Ye for a little bit but other than that, it’s just these 12.”

When it does drop, he’s confident it will be the best album of the year. “I’ma have the best album when it drops in 2021, for sure.”

Back in December, the new dad revealed that the project will be made up of production from Kanye and The Neptunes.

“As of right now, it’s only Ye and Pharrell…and Neptunes. That’s it,” said King Push, who was recently in the studio with Pharrell. “You know I bring the best out of everybody.”

It’s been three years since Pusha-T’s last album, Daytona, which was produced entirely by Kanye. The critically-acclaimed project debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 and earned a Grammy nomination for Best Rap Album.

Drake got a visit from an unwanted guest who ended up in custody.

Toronto police tell TMZ that officers responded to a call around 5 p.m. on Tuesday (March 30) and apprehended a woman who was attempting to make her way onto Drake’s sprawling property.

Police are still investigating the incident, but there were no reported injuries. Drake was reportedly home at the time, but the woman did not make it near the inside or have any contact with him.

There were reports that the woman was armed with a knife and tried to enter the property using a metal pipe to attack one of his security guards. However, Toronto police say that is not true.

Drake’s Toronto mansion has been featured in his video for “Toosie Slide” as well as on the cover of Architectural Digest. The mansion, built in 2019 and designed by Canadian architect Ferris Rafauli, boasts extravagant amenities including an NBA regulation-size indoor basketball court, 3,200-square-foot master-bedroom suite, indoor swimming pool, and recording studio.

Snoop Dogg is ready for the next episode.

The prolific rap icon has announced his 18th studio album From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites. Taking to Instagram, he also revealed that the first single “Roaches in My Ashtray” will arrive Friday, April 2. It is now available for pre-order.

The project follows his last album, 2019’s I Wanna Thank Me, which featured appearances from Chris Brown, YG, Nate Dogg, Wiz Khalifa, and Trey Songz.

In addition to music, Snoop is returning to acting. He will play Pastor Swift in the upcoming Starz drama “Black Mafia Family,” executive produced by 50 Cent.

The hip-hop mogul is also expanding his brand. On the heels of last year’s Snoop Cali Red, Tha Doggfather has once again teamed up with 19 Crimes to launch Snoop Cali Rosé this spring.

Verzuz has tapped Steve Harvey to host this weekend’s Verzuz between The Isley Brothers and Earth, Wind & Fire.

The “Family Feud” host will preside over the highly-anticipated matchup between the legendary R&B groups when it streams live on Easter Sunday, April 4, at 5 p.m. PT / 8 p.m. ET. This marks the first time that Verzuz has had a host.

Earlier this month, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon faced off in a Verzuz battle. Other upcoming livestreams include Redman vs. Method Man on April 20 and SWV vs. Xscape on May 8. Verzuz has also teased five more battles including a Mother’s Day special and rumored rematch between Swizz Beatz and Timbaland.

One year after its launch, Swizz and Timbaland sold their global livestream music series to Triller for an undisclosed amount. The Verzuz co-creators will become large shareholders in the Triller Network and serve as brand visionaries on the Triller Verzuz management team.

Verzuz also recently partnered with fitness company Peloton for a collection of themed workouts soundtracked by a Verzuz artist’s catalog or new album. The first round will feature songs by Brandy and Monica in honor of Women’s History Month.

Wedding bells are in the near future for Jeezy and Jeannie Mai.

The rapper, 43, and “Real” host, 42, have reportedly obtained a marriage license, and a wedding could be imminent. According to TMZ, the couple went to the Fulton County Court Clerk in Georgia on Monday to get the documents required to become husband and wife.

The license is valid for six months, so the two will have to tie the knot sometime this year unless they decide to re-apply.

Jeezy and Jeannie announced their engagement in April 2020. Jeezy proposed to his girlfriend during a romantic date night at home after the pandemic forced them to cancel their previously-scheduled trip to Vietnam.

The couple began dating in November 2018 after meeting on set of “The Real.” They went public with their relationship in August 2019, when they stepped out arm-in-arm to Jeezy’s SnoBall charity event.

“Getting to know him has been one of the most beautiful experiences of my life,” Mai said of Jeezy. “He’s introspective, he’s passionate, he’s incredibly deep, he’s a visionary, he’s a great leader, he’s an amazing servant to his community.”

This will be the first marriage for Jeezy, who was previously engaged to Mahi, the mother of his daughter, Amra Nor. Mai was married to Freddy Harteis for 10 years before filing for divorce in 2017.

Quavo and Saweetie’s relationship turned violent at one point.

TMZ has obtained footage of a physical altercation between the former couple that occurred prior to their breakup. The surveillance clip shows both of them standing outside an open elevator. When the door opens, Saweetie is swinging at Quavo.

Quavo dodges the hit before Saweetie grabs an orange Call of Duty case. There’s a struggle over the case before Quavo pulls Saweetie down to the ground. Saweetie remains on the elevator floor as Quavo looks at her but doesn’t help her up. At one point, he even notices the surveillance camera.

The elevator door opens while a man waits outside but doesn’t get in. The door closes again before Quavo gets off on another floor and leaves with the case. Quavo holds the door open before Saweetie picks herself off the floor and limps away.

The incident reportedly occurred in 2020 at an apartment complex in North Hollywood where Saweetie was renting.

Earlier this month, Saweetie announced that the couple had split and hinted that Quavo was unfaithful.

“I’m single. I’ve endured too much betrayal and hurt behind the scenes for a false narrative to be circulating that degrades my character,” she wrote. “Presents don’t band aid scars and the love isn’t real when the intimacy is given to other women.”

Quavo responded, writing, “I had love for you and disappointed you did all that. You are not the woman I thought you were. I wish you nothing but the best.”

Kevin Gates was involved in an accident that left his Lamborghini wrecked.

The Baton Rouge rapper was driving in Tarzana, Calif. on Monday (March 29) around 8 p.m. when a woman driving a Toyota Prius reportedly ran a red light before crashing into Kevin’s Lamborghini Urus.

According to TMZ, the impact spun the $200,000 SUV before it came to a rest about 100 feet away from the intersection. Photos from the scene show the t-boned Lamborghini. In video footage, Gates can be seen standing in the middle of the intersection and talking to the female driver of the Prius, who is sitting in the driver’s seat with the door open.

Cops responded to the scene where they facilitated the exchange of insurance information. No injuries were reported. However, Gates’ Lambo wasn’t as fortunate and sustained considerable damage.

Last month, Gates released his mixtape Only the Generals Part II. The 12-track tape marks the sequel to his 2019 EP, Only the Generals Gon Understand.
